Case Study 72 – Canine impaction in the roof of the moutn

Treatment was with braces in the Damon System customized with Insignia.  Her treatment was to address a permanent tooth (upper right canine) that was impacted in her palate.  Total treatment time was about 20 months with braces and elastics but was without removal of any teeth other than the baby canine on her upper right side and was without a palatal expander.  She had “early exposure” of her upper right permanent canine and removal of the baby canine.  The removal of the baby tooth and uncovering of the permanent canine occurred about a year before braces were placed because she wanted to start helping the permanent tooth move from the move of her mouth, but she was not ready to start braces.  The permanent canine erupted on its own after it was uncovered.  Once she started orthodontic treatment with braces, we were able to move the permanent canine to its intended location with the other upper teeth.
