Case Study 43 – Crossbite

This patient’s upper right front tooth (maxillary right central incisor) was in crossbite with the opposing mandibular right central incisor. Gingival recession was visible on the mandibular right central incisor. He had phase I treatment with a retainer which pushed the upper right front tooth forward until it was out of crossbite. The gingival tissue regrew on the facial/front of the lower right front tooth. He eventually had a second phase of orthodontic treatment to address crowding and misalignment of his teeth, but phase I was to address the emergency issue of gingival recession secondary to the crossbite.
